Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD)

ESD is a specialist technique for removing complex polyps in the bowel using specialist equipment and a flexible endoscope . It is often done as a day case and allows for the polyp to be removed in one piece which has the advantage of potentially curing early cancer if found avoiding the need for major surgery.

Amyn Haji is internationally known for his expertise in this area and leads the tertiary referral service at King's College Hospital. He trained with world leaders in ESD in Japan in 2010, including Prof Shinei Kudo and Prof Haru Inoue.
